Halloween Candy Countdown

What do you do with all of that Halloween candy?
When I was a little girl I used to hide it in a pillow case
inside a jacket hung in my closet.
Very sneaky!
I could make that candy last until Easter!

My children, however, cannot make candy last.
If they see it, they have to eat it!
And, because they all had cavities at their last dentist appointment
I was not about to let them eat it all in one sitting!
They each ate a few pieces before going to bed and
I ate all the mini Snickers and Reeses took care of the rest.
What? No I did not eat all of their candy!
I did sneak a few though, I'm not gonna lie.
My cousin calls it the "mommy tax". I think I'll adopt that phrase!

Anyway, what I did was make a countdown to Christmas candy chain.
Between the three of them they over 200 pieces of candy!!!
Yeah, they made out like bandits on Halloween!
We went trick or treating to their great-grandparent's gated community and their bags were full in a half hour!
On Halloween there were 54 days left until Christmas.
Today there are 47!!!
*gasp*

For my countdown I laid the candy in a row on some plastic wrap.

I wrapped each side of the plastic wrap over the candy.

Starting at the beginning I tied red and green yarn between all of the candies.

Hang it up and eat one a day until Christmas!

I made three total, one for each kid.
Now I wish I had made one for myself too because
those candies just hang up there tempting me all day!

On that note, this is my last Halloween post
and I need to get crackin' on crafts for the holidays!

  1. That's a pretty fabulous idea. Keep the candy consumption under control and countdown to Christmas - - great thinking!

We don't have too many issues with candy. My kids are pretty well trained that they get one after lunch and one after dinner. It's Dave & I that have more of a candy grazing problem. :)
